Summary of our 2022 events
The 2022 charity fishing series was enjoyed by the normal group of anglers who have attended the past 18 years and also supported a number of charities during that time. The group raised a further £1000 during 2022.
£500 was donated to Addenbrookes Charitable Trust and a further £500 donated to the Malcolm Whales Foundation Trust.

CCFR made two large contributions to the Addenbrookes children’s A & E department and the children’s Oncology department by donating hundreds of toys & games. We must say a very special thanks to Ian Westwood the Manager of Tesco on Newmarket Road and the Community Champion Julie Izzard who provided incredible support towards these events.
CCFR with the support of Tesco supplied females attending the Abbey stadium with free sanitary products which has been greatly received.
The two public charity walks for SHOUT 85258 million step challenge & the London to Qatar walk has clearly helped a number of people in so many ways.
Firstly the £17,100 raised will help those who contact SHOUT. This money will go towards helping the volunteers and training but I think more importantly the conversations the walks generated out-ways the money raised. I feel privileged to have had so many people over the year open up to me to talk about their mental health journey and many of them saying they had never spoken about it before. This has been so rewarding.
The New Year will see CCFR working with a new mental health partner as I have signed up to assist Gary Sutcliffe from MIND and we hope to run an event later in the year.

The Inspirational Children’s award evening partnered with The Cambridge Independent Newspaper will live with me for a very long time. When I set out with Mark Taylor & Keith Heppel on this journey, we did not know what nominations we would receive but let me tell you, the recipients were simply incredible. Listening to their stories had the majority of the audience in tears. The power and sheer determination to overcome serious health issues and raise funds along with helping in the community made us all appreciate how lucky we were to be in the same room as these 14 children.
Special thanks to all our sponsors Mick George Ltd, A.R.Aspinall & Sons Ltd, Cambridgeshire FA, Cambridge United Lottery, COEL, Premier Travel, Mead Construction, Tesco, Coopers Trophies, Cambridge United FC and special thanks to Jonathan Park for hosting the event.

Working in Partnership with the Cambridge United Lottery for the third year and being able to donate food hampers and toys for 65 people at Christmas is very rewarding and we all know life has become more difficult with the cost-of-living increase, I must thank the Lottery team for their generosity.
Finally, we made a donation to the waterfowl Sanctuary at Godmanchester after a swan dropped in at the Abbey Stadium and was struggling to fly. We contacted Graham at the Sanctuary and he drove to the stadium to assist. The swan was suffering from exhaustion and after some much needed TLC was later released back in to the river Cam. |
